The Story of Xanadu the Musical (source: Wikipedia)
Xanadu is a musical comedy with a book by Douglas Carter Beane, music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, based on the 1980 cult classic film of the same name which was, in turn, inspired by the 1947 Rita Hayworth film Down to Earth. The title is a reference to the poem, Kubla Khan, or A Vision in a Dream. A Fragment, by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Xanadu is the name of the Chinese province where Kubla establishes his pleasure garden in the poem.
The story of the musical focuses on a Greek muse, Clio, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest creation of his life – a roller disco. But, when Clio, disguised as an Australian roller girl named Kira, falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and Clio risks eternal banishment to the underworld.

Many credit this Chinese version (dating as far back as 850-860AD) as being the very first of its kind! Theater Down South is delighted to present their spin on this beloved and enduring tale.
There have been many productions of the Cinderella story over the years but most, if not all, are based on the retellings of Charles Perrault or the Brothers Grimm. “The Princess and the Red Carp” is based on a Chinese version of the story, with origins dating as far back as A.D.850 and is considered, the earliest existing version of this tale. It`s heroine is a young girl named Yeh Hsien who triumphs over adversity with the help of her friend, a magical Red Carp who provides her with clothes, jewelry, and most importantly a pair of tiny golden slippers!

I know that past is past and no use dwelling about it. I just miss our life in the US.. Apparently I’m the only one who feels this way Philbert loves our life here.I love our life here too but I just hate the educational system here for Joshwa. It’s just so frustrating that Philbert just doesn’t want to go anywhere.Whenever I ask him does he want to migrate he’ll say okay do the research but as soon as I find out the details and tell him that I already found an immigration person that can help us. He’ll tell me that he’s not into it right now….
